It's To Die 4

The Rocky Mountaineer passing through Porteau Cove

Dangerously narrow and winding?  The real reason BC’s Sea To Sky Highway is so treacherous (despite its Olympic reconstruction) is its breathtaking view, just a quick, risky peek away. A scenic train trip on the award-winning Rocky Mountaineer® is much safer and allows you to stare (in awe) for as long as you like.

If the view’s your focus, you should avoid BC’s most luxurious train’s dining menu, which will certainly distract.  Created by four renowned chefs (boasting Michelin star experience), the gourmet cuisine rivals the stunning vista.  Ahem, see below:

Pappardelle Pasta with Lamb Sausage

Slow Roasted Alberta Bison

Dessert Platter complete with mini chocolate Rocky Mountaineer

As a thank you to my readers for all the support, I’m giving away the following trip, also brought to you by Rocky Mountaineer®:

The Prize

Enter to win a round-trip rail journey on the historic route from Vancouver to 2010’s Olympic mountain in Whistler Classic Service for two from Rocky Mountaineer® and Itstodie4.com.  The vacation includes round-trip travel on-board the Rocky Mountaineer train, breakfast, a light (yet delicious) meal, non-alcoholic beverages, and rail station transfers in Vancouver and Whistler.  Prize retails at approximately $438.

The Refinery: Pesto Portobello To Die For

by erinireland on August 30, 2010

At first glance, you wouldn’t notice.  With a discreet sign, its exterior is unassuming.

Nestled above Sip Resto Lounge – the place for boozy food – is a petite restaurant serving magical tapas-style dishes that, from my experience, warrant ‘oos’ and ‘ahs’.

This post was written for Travellers Deck – your guide to the 100 best places to eat and shop in Vancouver.  Read the full story here.

Ciao for now.

Kirk McLean’s Restaurant: Hockey Night in the Kitchen

August 2, 2010

Retired NHL legend Kirk McLean couldn’t save himself in the kitchen.  He told me so himself.  But this doesn’t mean he’s a stranger to good food.  In fact, he’s got excellent taste.  His new favorite spot: the upstairs, wooden-beamed bar of his classy new restaurant, McLean’s (see below).
Located at 322 Water Street, a stone’s throw away [...]
